Ten Steps to Build Your Business PDF Print E-mail

Ten Steps to Build Your Business
By Jo Ann Joy

There are many people who have become millionaires, because they knew what steps to take to build their business. They developed a system that would increase their customers and sales. Business building has to be systematic, and you must be able to duplicate the process. The following are ten steps that have proven successful:

Step 1: Write down your goals. Every successful business person will tell you that you have to write down your goals and review them regularly. This is part of the “see it, and you can be it” process that is also called visualization. You must see where you want to go in order to get there.

Step 2: Know your purpose—Know why you are doing what you do and what you expect to achieve.

Step 3: Be sure that what you are doing gives you a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

Step 4: Know what motivates you. Donald Trump says that he is motivated by money, and that may be your motivation. Other people are motivated by a desire to achieve and accomplish. Still others are motivated by the recognition and respect they will gain.

Step 5: Be accountable to yourself – Do not settle for less than what you say you are going to do. Complete all scheduled activities, actions, intermediate goals, long-term goals, and other things that you must do.

Step 6: Constantly learn about your profession, your business, and your industry. Read at least 15-30 minutes each day about your business.

Step 7: For each task that you want to accomplish, break it into steps, schedule each step, and complete each step. For example, you may decide that you want to make 10 new contacts each day. Write down the steps you will take to make those contacts. Write down the kind of contact you will make--whether it will be written, phone, or personal contact. Develop a good script to use for the contact. Decide which day and which time of day is best to make the contact. Thank each contact for their time, and mail thank you cards. Schedule follow up contacts and try to turn them into relationships.

Step 8: Do not worry if what you do does not work. Consider each failure to be an opportunity for learning and improvement. Do not be discouraged, because most success is not accomplished overnight. Rather, it is a process that has many ups and downs.

Step 9: Tell yourself every day that you are a winner. Do not allow yourself to think negative thoughts. Push away any negative beliefs that you may have.

Step 10: Do good things for other people whenever you can. It is true that the more you give, the more you will receive. Always offer to help or answer questions. Give compliments and encouragement. Be a giver, and good things will come easily to you.

By following these ten steps systematically, you can turn your goals into accomplishments and you will be happier and more energetic. You all know the saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” That saying should always be in your mind, and you will not get discouraged with obstacles along the way.
